Before I came to University for study, The quantity of word that I talk with my mother in a day can be counted. Our hand always holding our mobile phone and we play our mobile phone in everywhere such as having our dinner and shopping. We spend all of our free time on social media and our argument always occur because we have less communication with each other.

I writing this blog is to advise everyone to put down your mobile devices and spend more time with your family members. The family is the most important person in your life and you must use the free time to communicating and express yourself to your family members.

Not only teenagers addicted to social media while many of the parents also addicted too. The child at the generation today cannot live without the internet and social media. Therefore, they spending all the time on social media. For the parents, although they are in different generation as their child, many of them will follow the period now which is

addicted to social media.

Parents play an important role in the family and children will follow their parents' action and attitude.

So, how parent's social media addiction affects their children?

According to Dale Hudson, parents who always checking on their phones for social media, texts and email updates are more likely to have children who behave badly than people who are able to step away from their mobile devices.

As parents, you should parent your own children and as you speak into the lives of the parents in your ministries. Hence, here are some steps that you can encourage:

1. You should set aside your phones and tablets during meal time.

Survey shows that there are 48% of parents reported technology interruptions at least 3 times a day. Besides, you can avoid this happening during meal time by being intentional about turning off or silencing devices because mealtime is an important time when parents have an opportunity to connect with their children and engage in conversation. This also will lead to the child thinks that put away their mobile phones is the right behavior and become a good habit.

2. Carve out some "no social media" times that you spend focused entirely on your children each day

Parents worried about how technology disrupts their family time can try to carve out periods of each day when the devices go away and they focus only on their children.  Children crave a connection to their parents and learn from their parents’ behavior

.  Continuously checking your phone is going to have a negative impact on this connection.

To avoid this kind of issue hapeened, parents are the person who can only control their children, so do you know how can prove that your children are getting addicted on social media?

1. Your children check their phone first thing in the morning

If your children first things to do from wake up is playing with their phone, then they may be addicted to social media. If they give you the reason which checks their various social media, then you might not believe them. Teens that experiencing social media addiction become consumed with checking how many likes a photo received or to check what other friends have posted. If your teen seems unable to get out of bed before checking their social media platforms, this may be a sign of addiction.

2. The first choice in how your children spend their free time

Most of the school are not allow the mobile phone to be used during class and if your children choose downtime spent all their time on social media, then this may be a sign of children addicted in social media. so, if you are trying to determine whether someone is struggling with addiction or not, the frequency and duration of time spent on social media should be considered.

3. Your children have strained interpersonal communication with you

First of all, the original purpose of social media was to connect people. Social media has become one of the most popular ways for people to keep in touch. While this seems like a positive thing, there is a negative side associated with personal relationships and social media use. Children absorbed with social media addiction become so obsessed with their online presence that they neglect real-life relationships. It is essential that parents establish rules and time-limits for time spent online is the main way to keep personal relationships unbroken.

Now, I would like to share about why social media should banned for children who under 18

1. Time-consuming

Children are always busy in their daily activities such as school, sports and others can take up a lot of time. Social media apps are the most popular apps that people like to enjoy while they relax after a long day. If you think your children are running out of their time, see how many times they check on their social media. Many people delay when they need to get something done. Social media is a big issue when it takes up time that your children should be spending on something else, this keeps your children from getting projects for work or school done. Social media was meant to be an addition to regular social life. However, it has begun to take up all of their social time.

2. Replaces real life

Nowadays, people are very busy to spend quality time together. Although increased use of social media can make a person meetings even more abundant, there is not necessary to continuously be on social media. You should let your children go out for a live activity because it is important to find a balance between technology and real life. It is the personal touches in life that make it worthwhile. Everything is done behind a phone or computer screen. On social media, your children can simply type in anything, whether you mean it or not. However, texting has replaced phone call is a common issue and no one want to talk in person.

3. Hidden Danger

Social media can be a dangerous thing if people are not careful about screening their contacts. Child predators look for kids online to abuse. They may only be looking at pictures, however, they are also looking for more interaction. As an example, an older man may pose as a child of the same age to start a conversation. Many social media sites give the option to change your settings to private. This is a very important step when young members are involved. Many lie about their age to get onto social media. Parents may not know their children even have an account. Adults can also set things to private so that the public cannot see any of their family photos. Your information is shared over and over to companies looking to make a sale. You must be careful what pages you visit, as you could end up linked to some unsavory individuals.

4. Lack of emotion

Text messages are often met with confusion, as you cannot always tell what the other person is trying to tell you. The tone and emotion are missing in text messages. It is easy to take something wrong way and there is no human voice to gather information from.

Social media is a great way to keep up with family when you cannot be around, but it is not the place to use when passing along certain messages. As an example, when someone needs to be congratulated or thanked on birthday, it is very impersonal to type a quick message on social media. Even if this is accepted as fun, a more personal greeting should follow, however, it rarely does. Few things can replace a heartfelt message that is stated with emotion. Everything is slowly becoming replaced with technology. Our social lives have already been compromised. Many of us are glued to our phones while we are waiting on the checkout person at a store. It pays to be nicer when given the chance.
